Its been almost 3 years since we first layed eyes on video footage of the Ghostbusters game. Since then the game has been canned, resurrected, and then postponed numerous times before we got the official announcement that it would be released in the summer of 2009. Anticipation for this game was high especially for nostaglic fans of the series, such as myself. Was the wait worth it? Lets find out.
STORY:
THIS IS NOT A MOVIE BASED GAMED!!! Lets begin by saying that. This is in fact a whole new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe. The story begins in 1991, 3 years after the events of Ghostbuster2. A mysterious black ooze is taking over the city and once again the heroes are back to investegate these turn of events. You play as the new recruit throughtout the game being a test dummy for new, and cool ass, weapons. You begin investegating in a familar locale with a chase after Slimer , which leads up to one of the coolest boss battles i experineced in a while. You soon find out that new evil is called Shandor and hes threathen to open The Ghostworld on our world for destruction. The story really shines on the game because it was directed, written and produced by the people who did the original. Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Archyod and Ernie Hudson reprise their roles and voice sfor the game making it feel like youre really playing the movie. While the story isnt as good as Ghostbusters 1, it does surpass Ghostbusters 2 in many way. Its funny lines and enjoyable characters makes you wish why didnt they do this before.
GRAPHICS/MUSIC:
The graphics are good, nothing anything to scoff at , but not anything to praise either. The environment looks great. The hotels are bright and beautiful, the cementary is creepy and dark, and the boss battles, especially the Stay Puff Battle, is spectacular. Even the famous firehouse station looks just like it. The proton packs in game are visually impressive. There are plenty of times you feel youre in the dark too much but cmon this is suppose to be Ghostbusters, not Casper or whatnot. The music in the game is incrediable. Same musical scores from the original movies, and of course it dosent matter how many times you going to hear Ray Parker's theme throughout the game its still the best theme ever and it will stay in your head for awhile.
GAMEPLAY:
Ok this is where im going to get brutally honest and its really going to hurt me. Ok lets start by saying the path in the game is extremely linaer. Its almost impossible to get lost in this game. It wouldve been cool if it wouldve been a open world game where you can go and zap ghost for cash then do regular story missions to progress, making the game a bit longer. The game only last anywhere between 6-8 hours. I personally clocked in 7. It really failed seeming how this game was in production for so long. The game diffuclty was easy for my taste which made me put down the game and not play for a day or 2 because i really didnt wasnt to beat it. Another point in the game is the fact that you use that PKE meter for the most part finding hidden artifacts and study the ghost, which is cool but you use it a little too much. Sucks you can ride the Ecto-1 too even though you are asked too later in the game, and you got the nay-no. Once the campaign is over then theres nothing to go back too. The online will keep you occupied for awhile and i highly reconmened it.
OVERALL:
This is Ghostbusters 3. This is a movie. At times i felt like they almost forgot theres a game there. Im not complaining to much though. The experience made me feel like a ghostbuster. Trapping ghost is one of the other game highlights. This here is the best movie based game of all time.Period. For fans of the series and only serious fans, go run and pick it up. This is as good as gaming gets for us fans. If youre not a fan, then watch the movies first, if you dont like it ,you wont definteley enjoy this game. A few flaws but this could be the beggining of resurrected old franchises and making them new again. Who you gunna call?....GHOSTBUSTERS!!!!
RATING>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>8 out of 10
