Dramasetter's Review - Brutal Legend

Let's get one thing out the way here, Brutal Legend is not the game you expect it to be. I went into this game as many others did thinking it was going to be a mindless hack and slash title with kick ass music, only to be sideswipped about 2 hours in with RTS(Real Time Strategy) involved. It didnt make the game bad by any sorts, but not being a RTS fan I was taking by surprise. At least the RTS is very light from what I heard from RTS fans. Aside from that, Brutal Legend is game that is unique and refreshing, but has its misses. You play as Eddie Riggs, a roadie whose passion for metal rock lives strong, who eventually dies on stage in attempt to save his crew member and is taken into an ulternate universe where rock is the way of life. You soon find out you was sent there to take down a evil emperor and so the story begins. Does it deliever?

THE GOOD:

• Humorous voice acting from Jack Black really shines in the game. The characters within the game various between his other half from Tenacious D and Ozzy Osbourne as the weapon upgrades from Hell.
• Beautiful vast looking environment and weather change .
• Gameplay various between racing,hack and slash, and RTS. You can open up different shrines around the world in a "music rhythm"mode.
• Music is perfect for the game. Heavy metal rock is the theme here and it delivers. Black Sabbath, Manson, Tenacious D and many others all contribute to the 90+ music in the game.
• One of the best title screen EVER!!!!!
  

THE BAD:

• Like many games being released now, the game could be beaten in less then 6 hours. Longevity is not an option anymore.
• RTS!!!!!!!!!!Not being a fan of the genre, I was well unaware this was going to be in the game. I did learn a thing or two, but cant see myself playing through RTS ever again.
• Game was glitchy at points, kept getting stuck between rocks and trees.
• The side missions get repatative after awhile.

THE BAD:

• RTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a bad game at all. Give it a shot in the future with a price drop to around $40. Brutal Legend is not perfect, but with it's unique humor and mixture of gamplay in the game you'll find yourself playing a title unseen throughout this year. NOT WORTH THE $60 PRICE MARK. Hopefully they'll fix up and tweak the problems before Brutal Legend 2 comes out. Till then rock on.
