Japanese hardware sales, Feb. 9 - Feb. 15: And the winner is edition

This evening, the cinematic achievements of 2008 will be adjudicated by the country's highest cultural court; their creators awarded golden blunt objects for their toils. However, the annual Academy Awards ceremony has undeniably lost some pizazz over the past few years -- we're not convinced that even a tap-dancing, showtunes-singing Wolverine can restore its entertaining qualities. Our main qualm is that we find ourselves disinterested in a majority of the show's categories -- Best Sound Editing? Best Makeup? Best Supporting Actress? Snore, snore, snore.

It seems like the once honored Oscars will accept any ol' category to their burgeoning ranks, so we've got a bold proposition: Best Video Game Adaptation. We know what you're thinking, but listen -- if we start giving out glimmering golden idols to the studios who make these disasterpieces, maybe the aforementioned studios will put, like, a little bit of effort into them.

You can vote for your favorite of our quartet of prestigious nominees after the break -- we'll call up the fine folks at the Academy to see if they've got an extra Oscar that we can ship off to the appropriate studio. If not, we'll have to come up with a name for our own commendation -- we've been kicking some monikers around for this contingency plan, but we think we're going to settle on "The Annual Lesser of Four Evils Achievement Award".
