DRAMASETTER'S RETRO REVIEW: Kingdom Hearts

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/85/Kingdom_Hearts.jpg

Back in 2002 Square Enix announced the merge between Disney and Final Fantasy characters. A weird thought at first but once the finished product was shipped out came the best RPG franchise that the PS2 had to offer. This is a must have for any RPG fan alike and trust me this RPG is as hardcore as FF8. 7 year later i replayed it. Here's my review.
STORY:
The story begins with Sora, Riku, and Kairi building a raft about to embark on a journey throughtout the world. Things take a turn for the worse when they are attack by the a group of shadows and all are seperated. Meanwhile, in another world, Donald and Goofy get a message from King Mickey to go meet up with a Keyblade master that'll put an end to the evil that is coming. Sora meets up with Donald and Goofy and then the adventure to reunite Sora and friends and end the Heartless reign of evil, begins. You visit various famous Disney settings such as Alice in Wonderland, Tarzen and ever kick ass setting of The Nightmare Before Chirstmas. You also bump into famous Square Enix Characters such as Tidus, Cloud and Aerith to name a few. Both worlds blend in together beautifully and cant deny the story is epic.
Graphics/Music:
On a graphical standpoint it was mindblowing at its time(remeber it was 2002).The Disney worlds stood out and stood very faithful to its counterparts. The CG movie scenes were and still is incredible. The music is what Square Enix does best. From the Menu select screen to the rendition at the end you'll have these tunes stuck in your head for years to come.
Gameplay:
Back in 2002 the Rpg's released was mostley comprised of bumping into an enemy and then fighting in a diffrent game. Very Very few RPG's gave you a free roaming environment until Kingdom Hearts showed a diffent approach. Hack and Slash is the game here. You got to be quick and get used to the controls to master this game. Gone are the bumpage mention before and now you are able to freely move around and plan atatcks in diffrent enemies and bosses. Cool features are the summons you get in the game including Dumbo, who drops MP bubles to help and Tinkerbell, who replenshes HP after attacks. The Neverland stage is crazy because you get to fly with Peter Pan and the annoying Little Mermaid stage will frustrate palyers with its awakward controls. Overall it was the best that the PS2 had to offer.
Overall:
So lets see. Epic storyline?....Check......Good Controls?....Check....Fantastic Gameplay?....double check!!!! In other words if youre an RPG fan and you never picked up this game yet then go do so now. 7 years later and this game gave me more challenge then most today. If youre new to the genere then pick it up you wont be disappointed. Should be less then 8 bucks at most stores. Dont let this masterpiece slip away.
Rating>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>9.7 out of 10
